Role Summary
Canal Biosciences is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Associate Scientist to join our team in Lowell, Massachusetts.

This role is well suited for someone with a strong molecular biology foundation who is excited to contribute to an early-stage life-science company developing a new category of DNA library preparation. The Associate Scientist will support molecular biology and NGS-related workflow development, laboratory execution, reagent preparation, QC testing, documentation, and day-to-day lab operations.

Deep prior expertise in NGS assay development is not required. Hands-on molecular biology experience, strong organization, careful documentation, independence, and a willingness to learn are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development and optimization of molecular biology and NGS-related workflows.
  • Prepare reagents, maintain stock materials, and help organize laboratory operations.
  • Perform routine QC testing and track workflow performance.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records, protocols, and laboratory documentation.
  • Assist with process transfer and coordination with external partners, as needed.
  • Support day-to-day laboratory execution with reliability, care, and independence.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology or related wet-lab workflows.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with PCR, enzymatic workflows, DNA/RNA handling, or basic NGS library preparation.
  • Experience with QC workflows, SOPs, or laboratory documentation.
  • Experience in a startup, product development, or life-science tools environment.
